Face In The Crowd, 3, a gelding, won the $122,404 Dash for Cash Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course, sprinting the quarter mile in 21.73 seconds, to beat Fathers And Sons by a length. Face has won eight of his 16 career starts.

Irving, a 1½-year-old Cochin, was declared the large-fowl grand champion and won the rooster-crowing contest at the New Mexico State Fair. He crowed 10 times in five minutes. Now he is crowing about his harem of eight hens.

TINLEY PARK, ILL.
Redbolt, 7, an American Staffordshire terrier, pulled 3,275 pounds—53 times his body weight—16 feet while harnessed to a wagon. He averages an hour each day pumping iron at the Hamarz Gym, where he does various pulling exercises.

APPLE VALLEY, MINN.
Mindy, 6, a dolphin at the Minnesota Zoo, predicts the outcome of NFL games by choosing among pieces of Plexiglas, each bearing a different team's name, that are dropped into its pool. This season, Mindy has a 32-21 record.

DEMING, N. MEX.
Running Deere, an 8-month-old Rouen duck, ran 17 feet in 1.53 seconds to beat Princess Nicole by half a length and win the fifth Great American Duck Race in Deming. She was trained on a high-protein diet and speed work.

BROOKLYN
Wizard, a 2-year-old border collie, won the Ashley Whippet Invitational world title for disc-catching dogs at Chicago's Comiskey Park. He was teamed with owner Peter Bloeme, 28, who won the world Frisbee overall championship in 1976.
