Meskan, 28, a lobbyist for the National Association of Realtors and a center for the Washington Blazers in the National Novice Hockey League, made a shorthanded hat trick in a two-minute penalty against his team in a 6-2 win over the Virginians.

Bensimon, a freshman at Alabama, won the 500-yard freestyle and swam a school-record 9:46.52 in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the Tide's victory over Florida. In both events she beat Olympic 200-meter freestyle gold medalist Mary Wayte.

Kirk, a 24-year-old financial planner, did 31,111 sit-ups to beat by 1,059 the Guinness Book of World Records mark set in November by Micheal Fields. Kirk finished in 21:34, lopping some three hours and four minutes off Fields's time.

Masakayan, a junior power hitter on the UCLA women's volleyball team, had 32 kills and 24 digs in the Bruins' final-match victory over Stanford in the NCAA tournament. For the season, she averaged 14.3 kills and 9.3 digs a match. Lawanson, a senior outside hitter/setter for Fresno State, averaged 12.5 kills and had a total of 55 service aces to lead the Bulldogs to a 26-13 record and a tie for fifth place in their first trip to the NCAAs. She finished her career with 962 kills and 127 aces.

Pete, a 6'2" senior guard, averaged 21.5 points, four assists and five rebounds a game to lead the Sea Pines Academy basketball team to a 26-6 overall record. Sea Pines lost in the semifinals of the South Carolina Independents tournament.
