Thomas, a senior third baseman at Lewis-Clark State College, hit his 92nd career double in a 10-8 win over Washington State to break the NCAA alltime record for doubles, set by Wichita State's Phil Stephenson in 1981.

Sylvia, a junior who batted .506, pitched eight no-hitters (three perfect games) and won every regular-season game for Bishop Carroll High's 23-0 softball team. She struck out 224 batters in 135 innings, allowing only three earned runs.

WINFIELD, KANS.
Loomis, an Oklahoma State senior, became only the second tennis player in the conference's history to win four consecutive Big Eight championships in singles and doubles. This year he played No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles with Peter Mallett.

Nelson, a senior attackman at Syracuse, scored 325 points (100 goals and 225 assists) to break the NCAA Div. I lacrosse career scoring mark of 296, set by Cornell's Mike French in 1974-76. Syracuse finished second nationally this year.

Pestorich, 35, the basketball coach at Washington High, was named All-Metro Coach of the Year for an unprecedented fourth straight time, while Cole, the Panthers' 6'6" senior forward, repeated as All-Metro Player of the Year. In 1984-85 Pestorich guided Washington to a 29-0 record and the state Division II championship; he has a 179-55 record in nine seasons with the Panthers. Cole led the team in scoring (18.5 points per game), rebounding (10.2) and steals (3.8).
