Ryan, 18, an ambidextrous pitcher for Laingsburg High, won a double-header against Webberville High, pitching right-handed in the first game and lefty in the next. He gave up 11 hits and struck out eight in the two games.

KRISTIN BLAND
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS.
Velina and Kristin, recent graduates of the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, led the Nobles to 34 consecutive victories over three years and three straight Independent School League tennis championships. Velina and Kristin had three-and four-year singles records of 31-1-2 and 44-0-4, respectively, and were undefeated as a doubles team the past two seasons. Velina will attend Providence College in the fall and Kristin will go to Harvard.

Hollie, who will be a senior at Edmond High, won the pole bending title at the state high school rodeo finals in Guthrie. She also won the 800-meter run and anchored two winning relay teams at the state track meet in Norman.

Tyler, 7, a T-Ball third baseman, caught a line drive, stepped on third to double up one runner, tagged another going into third and—not content with his unassisted triple play—threw to first to catch another runner for a quadruple play.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF.
Spangler, who is an 86-year-old retired surgeon, set an unofficial world best in the 86-and-above age group in a 10K race in Chicago held for persons over 60. He eclipsed Rudy Fahl's 1984 record by 17:28 with a time of 1:03:33.
