Every year Boston College is supposedly down. Every year the Eagles seem to lose their top scorer from the season before. Every year they're not supposed to keep up in the Big East. Then in March they reach the Final 16. B.C. is down again this season. You know what that means.

But to win 20 games again, the Eagles must get another good season out of forward Roger McCready, their leading returning scorer (14.8 points per game). A three-year starter, McCready likes being in court as much as he likes being on the court; in the off-season he works in the Brighton District Court in Boston, counseling people who have been convicted of offenses like drunk driving or assault. "I think I want to go into corrections when I'm done with basketball," says McCready. "I like working with people."

He, along with frontline colleagues Trevor Gordon, Troy Bowers and Skip Barry, will keep the Eagles on the straight and narrow. Gordon, a 6'9" center, led B.C. in rebounding last year.

Three-year starter Dominic Pressley returns at off guard. The big problem coach Gary Williams faces is finding a point guard to replace Michael Adams, who was the Eagles' top scorer in '84-85. "The other players are going to have to carry the new point guard the way Michael carried them last year," says Williams. Because Williams likes his point guard to score, 5'10" freshman Dana Barros, who averaged 39.4 points per game in high school, might just get the nod.
