Ford, a senior forward at Drake, set an NCAA single-season women's basketball scoring record of 919 points, breaking the mark of 908 set by Clemson's Barbara Kennedy in 1981-82. Ford averaged 30.6 points and 16.9 rebounds per game.

Johnson, a senior first baseman and pitcher at East Carolina, became the first player in NCAA history to hit 60 career home runs and pitch 30 career victories. This season Johnson batted .403, hit 17 homers and drove in 68 runs.

Michele, a junior at Fremd High, led the Vikings to their second consecutive state gymnastics title by successfully defending her floor exercise championship. For her performance, she earned a 9.9, the highest score in state history.

Harris, a 50-year-old stockbroker, was a 21-6, 21-6 winner over Ron Emberg, 57, of Houston in the finals of the U.S. Handball Association Golden Singles Invitational championship in the 50-and-over division in Birmingham.

Michelle, a senior at J.C. Harmon High, had a wind-aided triple jump of 35'9½" at the Kansas Relays. (The girls' state mark is 35'4¼".) Later that day, she won the triple jump, long jump and 100 meters at the Harmon Relays in Kansas City.

SPRINGFIELD, VA.
Basse, a senior leftfielder at Virginia Tech, hit four homers, a double and a single in a 30-0 win over Howard to tie the unofficial major-college records for home runs in a game and an inning (two) and total bases (19). He also scored seven runs.
