Hering, 50, driving a 20-foot hydroplane, sped to a world unlimited speed record for outboards: an average of 169.53 mph over a one-kilometer course on the Colorado River in Parker, Ariz. He broke the previous record by 12.1 mph.

Scooter, a junior at Kellyville High, stole 91 bases in as many attempts before being thrown out this year, to establish a national high school consecutive-theft record. Scooter finished this season with 79 steals in 80 attempts.
Chris, a 14-year-old competing at 90 pounds, won his third state championship during the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state meet. Chris, whose previous titles came at 60 and 70 pounds, has a career record of 270-36 with 138 pins.

Jonathan, a senior midfielder on the West Babylon High lacrosse team, scored 9 goals in a 13-7 victory over Lindenhurst High and 10 goals in a 22-12 victory over Connetquot. Jonathan had 197 goals and 76 assists in his four-year career.
