Maguire, 37, caught a 47-pound, 42-inch blue catfish on eight-pound-test line to break the record by 6½ pounds. Maguire and his partner, Tom Berg, had previously won a U.S. Bass team tournament at Lake Hodges, Calif.

SUSAN BANTA
RICHARDSON, TEXAS
Susan, a senior at J.J. Pearce High, won all five events at the Texas high school gymnastics championships, setting state meet records in the uneven bars (28.60) and on the balance beam (28.30). She will attend Stanford in the fall.

BUTCH HARRIS
BROKEN BOW, OKLA.
Butch, a Broken Bow High senior, set a national high school career record of 51 home runs, breaking the mark of 47 established in 1981-84 by Stanley Gideon of Frankston, Texas. Butch also pitched a no-hitter to beat Valliant High 7-0.

ANDREA SZEKELY
BOWLING GREEN, OHIO
Szekely, a Bowling Green freshman swimmer, won four events during the Mid-American Conference meet in Athens, setting conference records in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.35), 200 freestyle (1:51.43) and 100 butterfly (55.71).

EDWARD MANDERSON
GRAND CAYMAN, WEST INDIES
Edward, a senior at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla., set records in the state AA high school championships with a triple jump of 50'11½" and a long jump of 25'2", breaking the old marks by 2'½" and 1'2¼" respectively.

CARIE DEVER
THREE RIVERS, CALIF.
Carie, a senior at Wood-lake Union High, pitched four softball no-hitters this season and had a 13-1 record and an 0.25 ERA. Carie was 35-4 over three years, with 15 no-hitters, an ERA of 0.23 and a career batting average of .637.
