Kirtland, a junior at Macalester College, won the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events at the NCAA Division III track and field championships in La Crosse, Wis. They were the fourth and fifth national titles for the 12-time All-America.

David, 19, a house painter, and Michael, 18, a senior at Bayside High School, were both winners at the New York City Police Athletic League boxing championships. David, the 135-pound champ, was named the outstanding boxer in the open category, while Michael was the 125-pound victor. David has competed in the PAL tournament for six years and has won titles each year. Michael, a PAL boxer since '80, has won five titles while losing only one match.

Cathy, a senior, struck out a national-record 1,020 batters during her four years at Ramsey High. She also threw 29 no-hitters and had a career ERA of 0.25. This season she pitched 17 shutouts and had an 0.38 ERA.

LONGWOOD, FLA.
Eric, 7, won the all-around title in the 7-to-9-year-old group at the Gymnastics Federation's state meet at Lake Worth. He scored 56.35 points with firsts in the pommel horse (9.35), rings (9.6) and floor exercise (9.9).

AMBLER, PA.
Jane, an Upper Dublin High senior and Southeastern Pennsylvania's Woman Athlete of the Year, has in four years led the Cardinals to conference championships in track (1), basketball (3), lacrosse (2) and field hockey (2).
