Smith, 35, the girls' basketball and boys' baseball coach at David
Lipscomb High, led his teams to state 2A titles this year. The
baseball team went 32-2, and the Lady Mustangs finished at 31-3.
Smith's career record in both sports is 368-79.
JACKIE BEACH
FRANKFORT, KY.
Jackie, a 5 ft. 3 in., 95-pound senior at Frankfort High, won the
100-meter dash (12.56), the 200 (25.39) and the 400 (59.15), and
anchored the victorious 4 X 400 relay (4:03.50) at the state Class A
championships. She won the same events last year.
STEPHEN CASSADAY
MONROEVILLE, N.J.
Stephen established a national age-group record for six-year-olds
of 19.0 in the 100-meter dash to break Kevin Strain's 1974 mark by
1.2 seconds. Stephen, who runs for the Gloucester Track Club, holds
seven other age-group records.
ROBIN BUMPUS
MUNNSVILLE, N.Y.
Robin, 16, a sophomore pitcher at Stockbridge Valley Central, had
eight no- hitters this season, a national high school record. She
also batted .568 and had a team-high 45 RBIs as the Lady Indi- ans
won the Inner Valley league title.
NICKY GOETZ VICKI GOETZ HULL, GA. HULL, GA.
Nicky, 16, and his sister, Vicki, 13, were named to the American
Junior Golf Association's boys' and girls' honorary first teams for
players 18 and under. Nicky, a sophomore at Athens Academy, won the
state Class A title this year; Vicki, an eighth-grader at Franklin
Junior High, finished second at the U.S. Public Links Championship in
Stevens Point, Wis. Nicky has been Golf Magazine's Player of the
Year for his age group twice (in 1983 and '84), while Vicki has been
named once (1984).
