Manzanares, 36, a mechanical designer, defeated 259 competitors to win the 10K event in 32:50 at the Old Santa Fe Trail Run in downtown Santa Fe on Labor Day. An hour earlier, Manzanares had won the 5K race in 16:20.

Bober, 35, a chemicals salesman, won the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.45), the 200-meter backstroke (2:23.22) and the 100-meter freestyle (57.46) in the 35-39 age group at the U.S. Masters Long Course Championships, in Gresham, Ore.

INDEPENDENCE, MO.
Meier, 52, a housewife who has been pitching horseshoes for just four years, won the state women's championship, in Independence. She upset Vicki Winston, who has won the national and world titles 10 times, in the finals.

JOE GRAHE
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.
Grahe, 19, a righthanded pitcher, was named American Legion Baseball Player of the Year, for pitching Jensen Beach Post 126 to the Legion World Series championship. Grahe was 4-0 in the tournament, with a 1.51 ERA.

GRANITE CITY, ILL.
Tim and Jamie, 17, are identical twins and senior starters for Granite City High's football team. Tim, a quarterback, has completed 30 of 52 passes for 383 yards and 5 touchdowns for the 3-0 Warriors, while Jamie, a wide receiver, has caught 21 passes for 309 yards and 5 TDs. In a 27-6 victory over Cahokia, Tim passed for 200 yards and 2 TDs, both of them to Jamie. Jamie, who plays cornerback on defense, also intercepted 5 Cahokia passes, one for a 40-yard touchdown.
