Shawn, 9, scored all seven touchdowns for the Termites in a 48-0 Little League win over Cherokee. He rushed for six touchdowns on runs of 20, 33, 45, 45, 48 and 57 yards and returned a kickoff 55 yards for the other score.

Lindsey, a senior defender and cocaptain of The Collegiate School's varsity field hockey team, led the Cougars to a 20-0 season and the league championship. The Cougars scored 112 goals and held their opponents to just 6.

Fossas, 25, a kindergarten teacher running in his first marathon, won the Ocean State event in Newport, R.I., outrunning 1,060 competitors, in 2:24:01. Fossas finished 2:39 ahead of Michael Slavin of Cambridge, Mass.

Monroe, a junior quarterback at Knox College in Galesburg, broke the NCAA Division III single-game passing record when he threw for 532 yards in a 57-35 loss to Cornell College. He completed 35 of 52 passes for four touchdowns.

Jill, a 23-year-old ticket manager for the Tournament of Champions at Forest Hills, and Bobby, a sophomore at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, Calif., became the first brother-and-sister team to win the amateur mixed doubles tennis championship, defeating Tim Garcia and Leanne Palmisano of Santa Fe, N. Mex., 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the national finals in Tampa. Jill is also the first two-time winner of the tournament, having taken it in 1984 with Billy Way.
