Ptak, a 51-year-old salesman, beat Eileen Eliot, 43, by 8:32 to win the Miami Runners' Club Tropical 50 Miler with a time of 7:32:22. Only nine of the 40 entrants finished the race, which was held on a muggy 76° day.

Trina, a Pryor High senior who has cystic fibrosis, pitched one-hit ball to lead the Tigerettes to a 3-1 win over Chickasha High and the state 4A softball title. In 140 innings this year, she struck out 145 batters while walking 11.

Allister, a sophomore forward on the Gratz High soccer team, scored 10 goals in a 16-0 hammering of William Penn. The national scholastic record for goals in a game is 12, set in 1980 by Marcos Arreola of Calexico, Calif.

Gillet, a 36-year-old kayak store owner, paddled his 21-foot fiberglass kayak across the Pacific from Monterey, Calif., to Kahului, Hawaii. It took him 63 days to become the first person to complete the 2,100-mile journey.

Kiri, a junior who runs for Bowman High, repeated as girls' state champ in Class B crosscountry and led Bowman to a national-record ninth straight team title, surpassing the eight in a row by Glasgow (Mont.) High from 1973 to '80.

Tommy, the 17-year-old son of two-time Olympic pole vault champion Bob Richards, scored 6,618 points to win the TAC national junior (18 and under) Olympic decathlon title in Provo, Utah, by 108 points over Mike Blair of Yoakum, Texas.
