FACES IN THE CROWD

CHARLIE TRAYER
READING, PA.
Trayer, 33, a delivery truck driver, won his fourth straight 62.1-mile Great Philadelphia to Atlantic City Road Race, in 6:49:36, beating Jonathan DeHart of Jenkintown, Pa., by 56:15 and winning the national 100-km title.

STEPHANIE ROSENTHAL
BOCA RATON, FLA.
Stephanie, a freshman at St. Andrews High, broke the U.S. girls' high school record for the 100-yard backstroke, at the state Class 3A swim meet. Her time of 56.41 lowered by .13 the mark set by Beth Barr of Woodham (Fla.) High, in 1986.

MICHAEL FRANKLIN
ATLANTA
Michael, a senior tailback at Carver High, rushed 32 times for 434 yards and six TDs to lead the Panthers to a 36-6 win over Archer High. He broke Keith Henderson's state high school single-game rushing record by 11 yards.

GAIL STENZEL
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA
Stenzel, a goalkeeper for the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team, blanked Willamette 2-0, for her 11th straight shutout, thought to be an NAIA record. Joan Sutherland, also of Pacific Lutheran, set the old mark in 1983.

JERRY HANSON
GRANITE FALLS, MINN.
Hanson, a 52-year-old dentist, had two holes in one in one round of golf at Granite Falls Country Club, giving him four aces this year. He used an eight-iron to make his only shot on both the 122-yard 2nd hole and the 135-yard 9th.

KIM TURNER
KENNETT SQUARE, PA.
Turner, a junior midfielder and cocaptain of the Maryland field hockey team, scored two unassisted goals—the second one with 6:49 left in overtime—to give the Terrapins a 2-1 win over North Carolina and the NCAA championship.
