Mascorro, a sophomore third baseman for Monterey Peninsula Community College, hit eight homers—including two grand slams—in 15 at bats over a three-game stretch. Mascorro, a .429 batter so far this season, also had 23 RBIs.

Pierce, a senior, is the first athlete at Trinity College in Hartford to be a three-sport All-America. She led the Bantams to four league titles in field hockey, two women's lacrosse crowns and a No. 2 national ranking in women's squash.

Keith, a senior at Bayside High, triple jumped 52'7½" to set a national scholastic indoor record. He broke Ken McClendon's 14-year-old mark by 9¾". Keith also made the indoor season's best high school long jump: 25'5½".

Grierson, an MIT sophomore, set a Division III women's 100-yard butterfly mark of 56.18 at the NCAA championships. She beat the record held by Amy Heasley of Kenyon by .55 to become MIT's first national swimming champ.

Troy and Brian, both senior guards, scored 51 and 54 points, respectively, as Palmer High beat Aurelia 134-69 to win its third consecutive Class A state basketball title. Palmer has an enrollment of 44, including only 21 boys, 19 of whom play hoops. This season Troy shot 59.1% and led the state in scoring with 36.8 points per game. Brian made 131 three-pointers en route to a 26.8 average; he was also the tournament MVP. Palmer has won 79 straight games, nine shy of the Iowa record.
