Dani, a junior at Iowa City High, was the state girls' all-around champion in gymnastics for the second straight year. She won the vault (9.5), uneven bars (9.7) and floor exercise (9.55) at the state meet and finished with 38.15 points.

FRANKSTON, TEXAS
Paul, a Frankston High junior, struck out 21 batters in a 7-0, seven-inning one-hit win over Bullard High. Two days later, in his next start, he whiffed 18 batters in six innings but the Indians had to settle for a loss, 9-8 to Crockett High.

CHULA VISTA, CALIF.
Dawn, a junior softball pitcher at Castle Park High, threw two consecutive perfect games—an 11-0 defeat of Montgomery High and a 2-0 win over Chula Vista High—to tie the national high school record held by two others.

WINDER, GA.
Shane, a high jumper at Winder-Barrow High School, became the first ninth-grader in the U.S. to clear seven feet. The old mark of 6'11" was set in 1986 by Randy McCoy of Monroe, Ga. Shane's best jump last year was 5'10".

LOMBARD, ILL.
Courtley, 31, a bowling pro shop employee, bowled a 290 and two consecutive 300 games for an 890 series during a local tournament. A spare in the first frame of the first game prevented him from rolling three straight 300 games.

VERNAL, UTAH
Julie, a 6'3" senior center at Uintah High, averaged a triple double—with 30.0 points, more than 17 rebounds and 11 assists a game—for the 22-3 Utes. She also had four blocks and four steals a game and has a 3.9 academic average.
