Shelley, 12, a pitcher-shortstop for the Angels, was the only girl to play in the North Venice Little League Major League division the last two years. In that span she was 16-0, with six no-hitters, and batted .539 with five homers.

Bates, 58, used a five-iron to make his first-ever hole in one, on the 153-yard 2nd hole of Pinehurst (N.C.) Country Club's number 4 course. Moments later, using the same club, he scored his second ace on the 150-yard 6th.

DEREK BOWMAN
ERIE, MICH.
Derek, a senior running back and safety for Erie-Mason Consolidated High, rushed 15 times for 230 yards and scored all five of the Eagles' TDs in a 33-8 defeat of Summerfield High. He also had an interception and recovered a fumble.

TEDDY MITCHELL
LONGWOOD, FLA.
Teddy, 16, established a TAC national 15-16 age-group mark in the 3,000-meter run of 8:36.49, which was 20.8 seconds faster than the old record, and won the 1,500 meters (4:03.57) at the TAC Junior Olympics in Gainesville, Fla.

TALISHA HARGIS
HUNTINGTON, W.VA.
Talisha, now 12, was named to the AAU girls 11-and-under All-America basketball team for the second straight year. In five national tournament games this summer, Hargis, a guard, averaged 29.0 points for the West Virginia team.

DAN KOTYK
CANONSBURG, PA.
Dan, 15, a righthanded pitcher for Guyton's of the Eighty-Four Youth Pony League, struck out 21 batters in a seven-inning game as his team beat Prosperity 3-2. He allowed two hits, one of them a single and the other a home run.
