Steve, a senior, and Jason, a junior, finished one-two in the all-around team competition at the state boys' high school gymnastics championships to lead East Brunswick High to its third straight title. Steve, who scored 53.9 points to edge out Jason for top honors by .1, placed first in the horizontal bar, rings and pommel horse, while Jason won the floor exercise, vault and parallel bars and placed second in the other events. The Bears beat runner-up Cherry Hill East 139.10-131.75.

Lisa, a senior forward on the Daniel Boone High field hockey team, broke the state career scoring record by six goals with 124, including 43 this season for the 18-3-1 Blazers. She ranks fifth nationally in high school career scoring.

Shields, 33, a boat builder, won the Ultraman triathlon on the island of Hawaii, shaving 1:01:20 off the course record with an elapsed time of 24:42:01. The three-day event includes a six-mile swim, a 261.6-mile bike ride and a 52.4-mile run.

Mary Jo, a seventh-grader on the Hulett School eighth-grade girls' volleyball team, served for 129 points to help the undefeated Demons capture the Northeast district championship. Service aces accounted for 111 of the points.
