Weatherspoon, a senior guard for the Louisiana Tech basketball team, was awarded the Broderick Cup as Woman College Athlete of the Year; Brinton, a senior setter on the Cal State-Northridge volleyball team, and Beachy, a senior basketball guard at Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) College, were named Woman Athlete of the Year in divisions II and III, respectively. Weatherspoon holds the Lady Techster career records for assists and steals. She also averaged 1.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game as a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic women's team. Brinton had 1,017 assists for the 35-7 Lady Matadors and led them to the 1987-1988 Division II championship. Beachy scored 16.7 points per game for the Lady Cobbers as they won the Division III championship.

Ben, a senior, so far this academic year has helped Frankfort High to regional tournament berths in three sports. He was center fullback on the Panthers' soccer team, the placekicker in football and the No. 2 runner in cross-country.

Fike, 81, won six events in the 80-84 age group at the North American Masters track meet. He completed the 100 meters in 16.27, the 200 in 34.83, the 400 in 1:30.97, the 800 in 3:53.69, the 1,500 in 7:58.41 and the 5K walk in 37:23.6.
RYAN STEELE
SALT LAKE CITY
Ryan, a senior halfback and cornerback at Highland High, accounted for TDs in six different ways this season. He rushed for four, caught one TD pass, threw for one, and ran back a kickoff, a punt and an interception for the 8-3 Rams.
