Meggan, a junior guard for the Mahanoy Area High girls' basketball team, led all Pennsylvania girls in scoring with 33.8 points a game. She also had 217 rebounds and 263 assists in 32 games, as the Bears won the Class A state crown.
Derrik, a senior pitcher and outfielder for Bacon Academy, set a state high school record when he hit four consecutive home runs in the Bobcats' 26-13 victory over Middletown Vinal Tech. He was 5 for 5 in the game with 14 RBIs.
Sammie, 12, swept all five events in the girls' 12-14 age division at the U.S. Gymnastics Federation Junior Olympics. She won the all-around (75.00), the beam (18.65), the bars (18.95) and the floor (18.75), and tied for first in the vault (18.725).
Paul, a 61-year-old independent insurance agent, and his son Billy, a 30-year-old postal employee, each shot a hole in one during the same round of golf at the Sky View Golf Course in Alliance. Paul, a five handicapper, used a seven-iron to ace the 182-yard 3rd hole. It was his fourth hole in one at Sky View, where he has now completed the cycle, having aced all four par-3 holes. Minutes later, Billy, also a five handicapper, used a nine-iron to get his first ace, on the 162-yard 7th hole.
Pedtra, a senior at Foreman High, won the 100 meters, the 200 and the 400 (in a state girls' record 56.6); finished second in the long jump; and anchored the 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relays to lead her team to the Class A title.
