In the span of one week, Brown, a 69-year-old manufacturer's representative, his 42-year-old daughter, Linda, and his 18-year-old grandson, Wait, each won club titles at the Somerset Country Club in St. Paul. Brown won the men's and the seniors golf titles, defeating 39-year-old Doug McMillan 2 and 1 in the men's final and 57-year-old Jim Lilly 5 and 4 in the seniors competition. It was Brown's third open championship—he won his first in 1962—and his 11th seniors title. Linda, a community volunteer, beat Barbara Telander 2 and 1 to win the women's golf crown for the fourth time in seven years. Wait, a freshman at Stanford, overcame Alex Scott 6-3, 6-1 to win the men's tennis championship. Brown's wife, Lucy, 69, won Somerset's senior women's golf title in '88.
