Jeff, 15, won a national weightlifting title in the 97-pound division for ages 13-14 at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, in San Antonio. He snatched 99.21 pounds and lifted 126.76 in the clean and jerk, for a total of 225.97.

Elizabeth, 13, set four Savannah Coastal Swim League records for ages 11-12 by completing the 200-yard individual medley in 2:30.16, the 100 freestyle in 1:01.34, the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.76, and the 100 butterfly in 1:08.91.

Snow, 30, beat Rick Slaughter 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win his seventh U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis crown. In 1989 he won 12 tournament titles and became the first player to go unbeaten (48-0) on the Grand Prix wheelchair ciruit.

Missy, 10, her state's 10-and-under high jump and triathlon champion, won the same events at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, with a leap of 4'0" and 992 points in the triathlon (high jump, 3'11"; 100 meters, 14.7; 6-pound shot, 17'9").

Allen, 41, set a world record when he birdied 11 straight holes at the Jimmy Clay Municipal Golf Course. He birdied the 5th through 15th holes and finished the round, in which he had one other birdie, with a 63 on the par-72 course.

NEWTON, MASS.
Gretchen, a senior goalkeeper for 19-0 Newton North, broke the national record for career shutouts by a female high school soccer goalie, with 67. She surpassed the previous mark of 50 in a 6-0 victory over Cambridge Rindge and Latin.
