Chad, a senior striker for Ellsworth High, scored all the goals as the 16-0-1 Eagles shut out Orono High 4-0 to win their sixth consecutive Class B Eastern Maine soccer championship. He had a season total of 41 goals and nine assists.

FLORISSANT, MO.
Megan, a senior at Hazelwood Central High, won her second straight state girls' cross-country title, with a state-record 18:16.80 on the 3.1-mile Jefferson City course. She broke the 1987 mark of Susan Bliss of St. Charles by 3.68 seconds.

TEMPE, ARIZ.
Brian, a senior running back and cornerback for McClintock High, had three touchdowns in the 42-14 rout of Westwood High that gave the 13-2 Chargers the state Class 5A title. He set a state record with 38 TDs for the season.

Steadman, 65, set women's world 65-69 age-group records of 40.48, 40.48, and 3:15.72 in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter backstrokes, respectively, at one meet and unofficial 50- and 100-yard backstroke records, 37.05 and 1:24.18, at another.

David, 23, and Sara, 18, became the first brother and sister to win the state men's and women's amateur golf championships in the same year. David prevailed in medal play at Ozaukee Country Club in Mequon, finishing with a four-over-par 284 to defeat Alex Antonio of Mequon by four strokes. Two weeks later, Sara won the women's crown at Nakoma Golf Club in Madison by defeating Cathy Jo Johnson of Milwaukee with a par on the first extra hole of match play.
