Capurro, 21, aboard the 7-year-old mare Modeling, defeated 44 other riders to win the showmanship-at-halter title in the quarter horse world championships, in Oklahoma City. She is an equine sciences major at Colorado State.
CAPE ELIZABETH, MAINE
Richards, 52, guided the Cape Elizabeth High girls' swimming team to a 111-59 defeat of South Portland High for his 700th dual-meet victory in 28 years at the school. Richards's teams have won seven girls' and three boys' state titles.
NORTH OAKS, MINN.
Gina, an eighth-grader at St. Paul Academy-Summit School, beat Sandy Kim of Breck High 6-3,4-6, 6-3 to win the Class A girls' state tennis title. She is the first eighth-grader to be a Minnesota high school singles champion.
Rozier, 59, an insurance agent, set the national 24-hour endurance record in the 55-59 age group by running 139 miles, 429 yards. The previous mark, set last July by Gard Leighton of Napa, Calif., was 131 miles, 508 yards.
Felice, a senior forward for Burgard Vocational High, broke the state girls' single-game scoring record by one point, with 73 in the Lady Bulldogs' 96-89 win over Traditional High. She also had 17 rebounds, six assists and eight steals.
BRANDON, S. DAK.
Steve, a junior at Brandon Valley High, birdied five consecutive holes in the final round to win the Class A state golf championship, at Watertown Country Club. He finished the round with an even-par 72 for a three-under-par total of 141.
