Mullen, 77, coached his 900th girls' basketball victory in 51 years, as Central City High defeated North Linn High 54-53. Mullen, who also coached boys' basketball for 15 seasons, has a combined career coaching mark of 1,158-550.

Stevanie, a senior at Bell High, set a national indoor girls' shot-put record with a throw of 50'7½" at the National High School championships, in Syracuse, N.Y. She broke her own mark (49'10½"), set earlier this year.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C.
Cedric, an eighth-grader at Kings Mountain Junior High, led the Patriots to their 13th consecutive conference wrestling title by going 10-0 in the 171-pound class. All of his matches were won by pins, six of which came in less than a minute.

Brennan, 23, a graduate student at Arizona, placed first in the routine and figures events to win the 20-24 age-division Grand Master class at the Masters National Synchronized Swimming Championships, in Fort Lauderdale.

Romano, a senior hockey goalie at Pentucket Regional High, stopped 71 shots in a 6-0 loss to North Reading High. The next week, he made 93 saves in another losing effort, North Andover High's 2-1 defeat of the Sachems.

Pepi, a second-grader at Precious Blood School, scored 38 of her team's 41 goals as she led the Squirrels to an 8-0-1 record and both the regular-season and postseason soccer championships in the Precious Blood League junior division.
