Mendell, 68, a life insurance agent, finished first in the Ottawa Marathon (age group 65-69) with a time of 3:37:38. It was his 19th long-distance race this year, including a 39th-place finish in the 60-and-over division at the Boston Marathon.

HILARY PUSHKIN
BOCA RATON, FLA.
Hilary, 17, a senior at St. Andrew's School, beat Kim Donaldson of Pine-crest School in Fort Lauderdale 6-1, 6-0 to win the District 7-2A tennis title. In singles and doubles she had a 150-17 career mark, and the Scots won this year's state 1A-2A crown.

ANAHEIM, CALIF.
Phoupheth, a Magnolia High senior, won the triple jump at the Arcadia Invitational track and field meet with the third-best jump in the U.S. this year. His 51'¾" beat Bill Ivey of Nogales High in La Puente by over two feet.

Debbi, 28, and her husband, Don, 30, both fitness consultants, had excellent times in the 10-kilometer walk at the Lake County Races in Highland Park, Ill. Debbi set a U.S. record in the women's division with a time of 45:54.5. Don finished second in the men's event with a personal best of 42:49.5. Both are in training for the 1992 Olympics. He finished ninth at the '88 U.S. Olympic trials in the 20-kilometer walk. She won the 10-kilometer (which was only an exhibition event) at the same trials.

OCEAN CITY, N.J.
Patrick, 18, a junior at Ocean City High, won his second consecutive state 171-pound wrestling title by pinning Dave Young of Morris Hills High at :42 of the second period. He completed the season with a 35-0 record, including 30 pins.
