Mlinarcik, 43, a sophomore physical-education and health major at Fairmont State, is an all-conference cross-country runner who finished ninth out of 64 runners at the Frost-burg State meet, covering the 3.1-mile course in 21:24.

CAMILLA, GA.
Al, a 6'6" senior quarterback at Mitchell-Baker High, threw for 211 yards and five touchdowns in the Eagles' 34-6 win over Spencer High. Al became the state's alltime leading passer, with 6,002 total yards, surpassing Buck Belue of Valdosta.

WORTHINGTON, OHIO
Katy, now 11, established two national 10-and-under swimming records by completing the 50-meter breaststroke in 37.52, which surpassed the old mark by .61 of a second, and by bettering the 100-meter breaststroke record of 1:22.28 by .03.

Jessica, a six-year-old forward for the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association Lady Bugs, scored 13 goals while playing less than one half of her first game ever. She went on to score 44 more goals in her team's next seven games.

Pemberton, 72, a shortshop for the San Juan Capistrano Angels, hit .705 for six games and went 4 for 4 in the title game to lead his team to a 15-6 rout of the San Diego Grays in the over-70 division at the World Series of Softball. In that win Angel third baseman Brown, 71, made two spectacular stops that he turned into double plays. Brown, who played a year of minor league ball in 1946 for the Pirates, was named team MVP. Pemberton played intermittently between 1941 and 1952 in the Dodgers' system.
