A South Pacific icing...a roadside delivery...Jordan's Fabulous 40 Club

Defeated
For the first time in 40 fights, junior welterweight Hector (Macho) Camacho, 28, in a 12-round split decision, by Greg Haugen, 30, in Las Vegas. Referee Carlos Padilla deducted a point from Camacho—which cost him both the fight and the WBO title—at the start of the final round after Camacho refused Padilla's order to touch gloves with Haugen and instead threw several sucker punches.

Completed
A hit list, by Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan, 28, who scored 40 points in the Bulls' 118-113 win over the Washington Bullets on Feb. 19, giving him at least one 40-or-more performance against every NBA team during his seven-season career. Jordan's favorite target: the Cleveland Cavaliers, whom he has scorched for 1,053 points in 32 games.

Assisted
In the delivery of his fifth child, College of Idaho swingman Johnnie Hilliard, 23. On Feb. 22, Hilliard's wife, Dawn, went into labor while the couple was driving near Ontario, Ore. Hiliiard pulled to the side of Interstate 84 and aided in the birth of his daughter, Jazmann. The following night, mother and daughter were courtside as Hilliard scored 26 points in the Coyotes' 91-75 defeat of Oregon Tech in the first round of the NAIA District Two playoffs. "I always knew he could score," said College of Idaho coach Marty Holly. "But, evidently, he's got pretty good hands too."

Shipwrecked
After hitting an iceberg off the coast of Cape Horn, John Martin, 36, of South Africa. Martin, who at the time was leading the BOC around-the-world solo sailing race, was rescued in high seas by another skipper, countryman Bertie Reed. After Martin's 60-foot sloop was deemed unable to finish the 7½-month event, it was sunk to prevent it from being a hazard to other boats.

Tried Out
For the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers, shot-putter Randy Barnes, 24. Barnes, who is 6'4½" and 317 pounds, was suspended by the IAAF from track competition last August for testing positive for steroids. Although he has not played football since high school, both the 49ers and Chargers were impressed at work-outs. "This is not a fad or something I'm doing for fun," said Barnes. "I'm not trying to pretend I'm Bo Jackson."

Arraigned
By a San Benito County (Texas) court, Harlingen High basketball coach Carl Owens, 45, on charges of inciting a riot when he encouraged a player to cut down a net after his Cardinals' 77-63 win over San Benito High. The rule Owens violated was adopted by area principals last spring to case tensions between rival schools.

Died
Hall of Fame track coach Joe Yancey, 80; of heart failure; in Teaneck, N.J. Yancey was best known for coaching a five-member Jamaican Olympic track team to five medals in the 1952 Games in Helsinki, including a world-record 3:03.9 in the 4 x 400-meter relay. He started working with the team only a month before the Games began.
