Kara, 13, won the New England women's amateur open eight-ball pool title by defeating Nadine Borofsky, 25. She was also 17th out of 332 male and female competitors in a tournament in Reno.

Frank Visciano
ENGLEWOOD, COLO.
Frank, 9, won the floor exercise, pommel horse, rings and high bar in the seven-to-nine age group at a U.S. Gymnastics Federation regional championship. He is also Colorado's overall champ for his age group.

Ray Piva
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO
Piva, 64, a retired sausage maker, broke the U.S. 60-64 age-group record for 100K (62 miles) by running around San Francisco's Lake Merced 13 times in 8:58.04. He surpassed the old mark by 33.21 minutes.

Brooke Bennett
PLANT CITY, FLA.
Brooke, 11, set two state 10-and-under age-group records at the Florida Short Course Junior Olympics by swimming the 100-yard IM in 1:08.51 and the 200 IM in 2:23.37. In all she won five gold medals and a silver.

Yolanda Watkins
DECATUR, ALA.
Yolanda, a junior forward at Decatur High, scored her 2,000th basketball point on her last shot in the state tournament to defeat Wenonah 73-53. She averaged 22.4 points and 15.6 rebounds per game this season.

Bill Miller
PHILADELPHIA
Miller, a senior attackman on the Hobart College lacrosse team, scored eight goals in a 19-12 win over Nazareth College of Rochester. Through last week he led the 6-6 Statesmen in goals (42) and assists (24).
