Diane, 39, director of development for a newspaper, won the women's doubles crown at the national open platform tennis tournament with partner Robin Rich Fulton of Stamford, Conn. They defeated Sue Avery of Bedminster, N.J., and Gerri Viant of Nyack, N.Y., 6-3, 6-4. Diane's son, Peter, 11, won the 12-and-under boys' doubles title with Brian Berkman, 11, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., beating the team of John Poor and Justin Ucko, both of Short Hills, N.J.

Mahaney, 29, a finance executive, skippered the winning boat at the U.S. Soling championship. He and his crew of Doug Kern of Austin, Texas, and Jim Brady of Annapolis, Md., are No. 2 in the world behind a French crew.

Brown, 55, a grandmother of eight, set three national swimming records in the women's 55-59 age group at two recent masters' meets: the 100-yard backstroke (1:17.44), the 200 back (2:46.26) and the 400 IM (5:54.24).

Breithaupt, an outfielder/pitcher who recently graduated from Hope College, in Holland, Mich., won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association batting crown for the third straight year, with an average of .486.
Kyme Townes
HIGHLAND SPRINGS, VA.
Kyme, a senior at Highland Springs High, scored all 50 winning points for her team at the Central Region track and field meet. She won the long and triple jumps, the intermediate and high hurdles, and the 100 meters.
