Ellis, 35, an engineering technician, and Maggie, 7, a Border collie, won the world finals of the Come 'N Get It Canine Frisbee Disc Championships. Maggie, adopted by Ellis from a humane society, scored a total of 84 points while Sam, an Australian shepherd from Covina, Calif., was runner-up with 81. Points are awarded in distance competition and two freestyle events in which execution, showmanship and leaping ability are measured.

Hoskins, 24, became only the 10th rider in the last 15 years selected for the American Morgan Horse Association's Justin Morgan Achievement Award for, among other things, proficiency in horsemanship.

Tichacek, 35, an investment adviser, went 16-0 in his bouts to lead the New York Fencers Club to the national team title in foil for the eighth time in 12 years. The Salle Gascon team of Culver City, Calif., was second.

Carrie Newton
OSPREY, FLA.
Carrie, 12, a pitcher on the Newton Supply Co. girls' Little League fast-pitch softball team, threw six no-hitters on her way to an 11-0 record this season. She also led the league with a .780 batting average.

Ken Popejoy
WHEATON, ILL.
Popejoy, 40, a lawyer, won the 1,500 meters (ages 40-44) at the World Veterans track and field meet in Turku, Finland, by defeating Ian Cousins of New Zealand by nearly two seconds, with a time Of 4:02.54.
