Dan Conway
CHETEK, WIS.
Conway, 53, a high school teacher, set the world 50-and-over age-group record for the indoor mile at the Sunkist Invitational in Los Angeles with a time of 4:41.31. He broke by 2.91 seconds the mark set in 1985.

Danielle Ortega
La HABRA, CALIF.
Danielle, a junior softball pitcher at La Habra High, threw her fifth no-hitter of the season in a 13-0 triumph over Costa Mesa Estancia High and lowered her ERA to 0.41. She has now tossed eight career no-hitters.

Katie Smith
COLUMBUS, OHIO
Katie, a senior basketball guard at Logan High, averaged 30 points, eight rebounds and four assists this season and was named Gatorade national girls Player of the Year. She also has a 4.0 grade point average.

Dwane Cason
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.
Dwane, a ninth-grader at Chesnutt Junior High, won a state junior high school wrestling title for the second year in a row. He was the 189-pound champ this season and the winner at 171 in 1991, and has a 39-0 record.

Tom Marechek
VICTORIA, B.C.
Marechek, a senior lacrosse attackman at Syracuse, has scored three or more goals in seven games this season. A three-time All-America, he ranks as the Orangemen's No. 2 all-time goal scorer, with 164.

Beth Beagan
MASHPEE, MASS.
Beagan, a senior right wing on the Providence women's ice hockey team, led the Lady Friars to a 22-2-1 mark and the ECAC crown. She had 174 points in her varsity career and is a member of the U.S. national team.
