Fortunato, 18, a pitcher for the Whippany Park High softball team, led the Wildcats to a 29-0 record and the Group I state title. She was 28-0 for the season, with eight no-hitters, including three perfect games.

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.
Higgins, 20, a defenseman, was named MVP of the Junior World Lacrosse Championships, in Hempstead, N.Y., after helping the U.S. to a 6-0 record, including a 24-11 defeat of Australia in the title game.
Julianne Somers
SANTEE, CALIF.
Julianne, 16, won the all-around title at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championships with 36.5 points. She also won the floor (9.3) and the vault (9.3), and placed fourth on the beam (9.2) and 10th on the uneven bars (8.95).

Hillebrand, 50, and Green, 53, won their second national seniors tennis title of the year by beating Dorothy Matthiessen of Pasadena and Dale Burch of New York City 6-3, 7-5 for the USTA Women's Grass Court 50 doubles crown. Hillebrand also won the singles title with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Nancy Reed of Winter Park, Fla. Hillebrand and Green had earlier won the USTA Women's Hardcourt 50 title and finished third at the indoors.
Jason Johnson
BAKER. LA.
Jason, 14, won the 100 meters in 10.83 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.06 in the youth (ages 13 and 14) division at the TAC Junior Olympics. He was third in the 400 and ran on the winning 4 X 400 relay team.
