Donnie, 12, a pitcher for South Lexington, threw a two-hitter and went 3 for 4 with two homers—one a grand slam—and eight RBIs in a 9-2 win over Miami in the Babe Ruth 12-and-under World Series final.
Christina Muccini
DOUGLASTON, N.Y.
Muccini, 19, earned a national title for the fourth year in a row when she won the women's 18-to 35-year-old lightweight crown at the U.S. Karate Federation nationals. She was scored upon only twice in six matches.
Cameron Smith
INDIANAPOLIS
Cameron, a senior running back at Ben Davis High, rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in leading the Giants to a 42-7 defeat of Warren Central. The win was Ben Davis High's 28th in a row.
Bob Mueller
PORT WASHINGTON, WIS.
Mueller, 56, an electrician, won the 55-and-older title at the barefoot waterskiing national championships. He won ail three events—slalom, tricks and jumps—and set age-group records for most points in slalom and tricks.
Charlynna Foster
CLEARWATER, FLA.
Charlynna, 12, won the 400-meter run in 57.3 seconds and the 80-meter hurdles in 12.56 in the 12-and-under age group at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. Both times were national age-group records.
Gary Hall Jr.
PHOENIX
Gary, 17, set two U.S. junior swimming records when he swam the 50-meter freestyle in 23.18 seconds and the 100 free in 50.91 at the junior nationals. His father, Gary Sr., was an Olympic swimmer three times.
