Erick Walder
MOBILE, ALA.
Walder, a junior at Arkansas, repeated as champion in both the long jump and the triple jump at the NCAA Men's Indoor Track Championships in Indianapolis. He leaped 27'4" in the long jump and triple-jumped 55'3¾" to help the Razorbacks to their 10th straight indoor crown, an NCAA record for consecutive team titles in any sport.
Kaci Clark
BRENTWOOD, TENN.
Kaci, a freshman softball pitcher at Georgia State, earned four victories in the first two doubleheaders she pitched, against Georgia Southern and previously unbeaten South Carolina. At week's end she was 15-2 with 122 strikeouts in 95‚Öì innings. She also led the 25-4 Lady Panthers in batting with a .429 average.
Scott Wolgamuth
COLLEGE PARK, MD.
Wolgamuth, 35, an unemployed certified public accountant, rolled a 12-game total of 2,066 to set a duckpin bowling world record at a tournament in Mansfield, Conn. The previous record of 2,025 was held by Buddy Creamer of Glen Allen, Va. The victory was Wolgamuth's first in an open tournament in seven years.
Kelly Szmurlo
FRANKLIN, WIS.
Szmurlo, 24, placed first in two of the three compulsory figures to win the figures title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She briefly retired from skating in 1989, a year before compulsory figures and freestyle skating were split into two different competitions. Since returning to the ice, she has won three straight figures crowns.
Lemar Young
FORT MYERS, FLA.
Young, a 5'10" senior guard on the Hawaii-Pacific basketball team, scored 24 points, 15 more than his regular-season average, to lead the Sea Warriors to an 88-83 win over top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist in the NAIA championship game. He was named tournament MVP after thrice making last-minute, game-winning shots.
Lauren Hancock
PENDLETON, S.C.
Lauren, who recently turned 11, swept all 10 events in which she swam at the South Carolina Short Course championships. Competing in the 10-and-under age group, she won the 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyles, the 100 and 200 individual medleys and the 50 and 100 in both the backstroke and the butterfly.
