Katie and Zachary, both 14, led their teams, 2nd City Jammin' and Ace of St. Louis, respectively, to the U.S. Volleyball Association Junior Olympic championships in the 14-and-under division. Katie, a 5'11" middle hitter, had seven kills and four blocks in a 15-4, 15-2 defeat of defending champ Fort Wayne (Ind.) Blue in the girls' final. She was named tournament MVP in her category. Zachary, a 5'9" setter, was also chosen MVP, after Ace defeated Borinquen Gardens of Puerto Rico 15-13, 6-15, 15-11 in the boys' final. He had a 10-game tournament total of 36 digs, 230 assists and 37 kills. He had earlier been named MVP of the AAU 14-and-under national tournament, at which Ace also prevailed.

Pat Perez
SAN DIEGO
Pat, 17, shot a three-under-par 69 in the final round and an event-record 17-under 271 for 72 holes to win the PGA Junior Championship. Robert Floyd, 17, of Miami Beach finished seven strokes back. It was Pat's third junior title of the season; he also won the California State Junior Amateur and the Optimist Junior World Championship.

Catharine von Schwarz
ANNAPOLIS, MD.
Catharine, 16, averaged three goals a game during the six-game tournament to lead Annapolis to the national junior girls' outdoor water-polo championship. Annapolis defeated Commerce (Calif.) 10-9 in the final. She was named MVP of the tournament, as she was earlier this year when she led Annapolis to the national indoor title.

Justin Abdou
MOOSE JAW, SASKATCHEWAN
Abdou, 22, won his fourth consecutive Canadian national freestyle wrestling championship in the 180-pound class by defeating Gary Holmes of Hamilton, Ont., 4-2 in the final. Abdou, who has won 12 national titles, ended his college career at Simon Fraser University, in Burnaby, B.C., with a 207-24-3 record and four NAIA crowns.

Toya Jones
REFUGIO, TEXAS
Toya, 16, won the young men's (age 17-18) long jump at the AAU Junior Olympic Games with an AAU-record leap of 25'½". The old mark of 24'7¾" was set by Eric McCarrol of Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1978. Toya also earned the bronze in the young men's triple jump. Earlier this year he won five gold medals at the Texas class 2A track meet.
