Jones, 37, a first-degree black belt in taekwondo, broke 152 solid concrete blocks in 60 seconds with his right fist. The 16" X 8" X 2" blocks were arranged in stacks of seven. Jones's feat is believed to be a world record. The previous recorded mark for concrete blocks broken in one minute was 72 by Fernando Navarrete in 1990.
PARK CITY, UTAH
Gibson, 43, a software engineer, won the women's masters' division (40 and over) at the New York City Marathon and was the first U.S. woman to finish. Her time of 2:50:17 placed her 16th among all women and 303rd overall. She also won the overall women's title in the 40-to-44 age bracket at the 1993 masters' cross-country skiing nationals.
Trask, a 60-year-old yacht broker, and his four-man crew won the U.S. Sailing St. Francis International Masters Regatta, an event open to skippers who are at least 55. Trask has now won the regatta three times in the last five years. In this year's competition he sailed his J/24 to two first-place finishes, a second and a fourth.
Marshall, a senior, led Trenton State to the Division III women's soccer championship by scoring two goals in the title game, a 4-0 victory over Plymouth State. Her five tournament goals, in as many games, are a division record. Marshall, who had 12 goals this fall, completed her career as the school's alltime leading goal scorer, with 32.
WHITE OAK, OKLA.
Reggie, a junior at White Oak High, gained 417 yards on 24 carries to lead the Ranchers to a 78-38 win over Kremlin-Hillsdale High. He rushed for seven touchdowns, returned an interception 65 yards for a TD and ran back a punt 65 yards for another score. Reggie also set a state single-season record for touchdowns, with 50.
Merchant, a 25-year-old senior at the State University of New York at Cortland, got her 19th field hockey assist of the season, a school record, in a 1-0 win over Mary Washington College in the championship game of the NCAA Division III tournament. Her 124 career points (50 goals, 24 assists) are also a school record.
