Jack Heiden
MADISON, WIS.
Heiden, 60, set a world record for lightweight men in the 60-69 age group with a time of 8:39.4 for 2,500 meters on an ergometer, during a qualifying heat at the CRASH-B Rowing Championships. Heiden, whose son, Eric, earned five speed skating gold medals at the '80 Olympics, later won his age group.
Danielle Viglione
AUSTIN
Viglione, a freshman guard and premed major at Texas, hit 11 three-point shots, an NCAA women's single-game record, and scored 48 points in a 100-76 defeat of Houston. In 1991-92 Viglione broke Cheryl Miller's California girls' high school record for points in a season, with 1,300.
Joel Gillmore
DENVER
Joel, a senior at Arvada West I High, became the sixth wrestler to win four Colorado wrestling titles when he beat Shane Powell of Horizon High on points (2-1) for the Class 6A 119-pound crown. In 116 career matches Joel (30-0 this season) had only two losses, one of them by forfeit because of an injury.
Danielle Garrett
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA.
Danielle, a senior midfielder, scored twice and had two assists in leading the Lyman High girls' soccer team to the 5-0 defeat of Winter Park High that clinched the Greyhounds' third girls' state title in four years. Lyman was 28-1 for the season, which gave it a 99-5-4 mark in Danielle's four varsity years.
Sabir Muhammad
ATLANTA
Sabir, 17, set meet records in the 15-18 age group for the 100-yard freestyle (46.0), 100 backstroke (50.67) and 100 butterfly (50.13) at the Black History Swim Meet. Sabir, who is 6'7" and competes for the Atlanta Dolphins Swim Team, was named the meet's outstanding performer for the second year in a row.
Jack Kendrick
LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y.
Kendrick, 61, outpointed Peter Lawrence, 45, of New York City for the New York Athletic Club middleweight boxing crown, a title that Kendrick won for the first time in 1968. An actor and writer, he competed in the '56 and '60 Olympic trials as a decathlete and in the '60 Olympic boxing trials.
