Meredith, 14, and Preston, 16, became the first sister and brother to win individual titles in the same year at the National Junior Squash Championships. Meredith, the third seed, lost the first game of the girls-under-15 final to second seed Dana Betts of Brooklyn, N.Y., 10-9, but won the final three games 9-6, 9-5, 9-5. Preston, seeded fourth in the boys-under-17 age group, defeated third seed Gardner LaMotte of Haverford, Pa., in a 90-minute final, 10-8, 5-9, 3-9, 10-8, 9-3. Meredith and Preston also play badminton and have been ranked as high as third and fourth, respectively, in the nation in their age groups.

Brian Amos
BRYAN, TEXAS
Amos, who is a senior at Abilene Christian, was named the NCAA Division II male outdoor track and field athlete of the year after winning his third straight title in the 110-meter hurdles at the division championships. He also placed sixth in the event at the U.S. Nationals.

Desarie Knipfer
SOQUEL, CALIF.
Desarie, a graduate of Soquel High, pitched eight no-hitters, one of them a perfect game, as a senior as the Knights' softball team reached the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Division II playoffs. She threw 20 shutouts and had a national single-season-record 518 strikeouts.

Mark Ruiz
ORLANDO
Mark, 15, a diver, won the bronze medal in the 10-meter platform and placed sixth in the 3-meter springboard at the Olympic Festival. On his final dive in the platform competition, a forward 1½ somersault with three twists, Mark was awarded the only two perfect 10's of the festival.

Louise Kepley
CINCINNATI
Kepley, 52, a sales associate, won her fourth women's state amateur golf championship when she defeated her 29-year-old niece, Janie Dumler, one up in an 18-hole match. Kepley is also the first senior amateur to win the Ohio Women's Golf Association stroke play title.
