Howieson, 40, was named the NAIA women's soccer coach of the year after guiding Simon Fraser University to its first NAIA title with a 3-2 quintuple-OT win over the University of Mobile (Ala.). She has been the Clan's coach since the program began in 1988 and has a career record of 98-51-17.

Sasaki-Scanlon, a junior on the Williams College track and field team, finished in the top three, including three wins, in seven of the eight events he entered and scored 49.25 points in the Ephs' 244-243 defeat of MIT. The victory pushed Williams's winning streak in dual, triangular and quadrangular meets to 99.

A state champ at eight and nine, Martin went 1-1 at the nationals with a KO.

Manno, a senior bowler at Indiana, broke his own collegiate record for average in a nine-game series (251.8) when he scored 252.4 per game at the National Team Match Games. He led the top-ranked Hoosiers to the team championship and was named 1996 college bowler of the year.

Her 2:05.95 in the 200-yard IM surpassed the 1994 U.S. mark of Jennifer Parmenter of Granada Hills, Calif. (2:06.03). Carly won nine of 11 events she competed in.
