AMERICAN LEAGUE

Despite the many new faces in new places profiled on the
following pages, no one looms larger in the American League
pennant race than the Mariners' 6'10" lefthander Randy Johnson,
who is returning from a back injury that shelved him last May.
Given 30 starts from the game's most dominant pitcher to
complement a lineup that last year broke the record for total
bases set by the 1936 Yankees, the Mariners have what it takes
to win it all. More power to 'em.
