WHEELS COME OFF FOR FEDEX MEN
Three recent FedEx winners are missing in transit. Defending
champ Greg Norman is on the shelf, rehabbing after shoulder
surgery. Jim Gallagher Jr., who looked as if he had the whole
package while winning here in 1995, has plummeted to 120th on
the money list. Dicky Pride, the '94 victor, has been bouncing
around the PGA and Nike tours, missing 13 cuts in 16 PGA Tour
starts and earning only $18,428 this year. If any former FedEx
king can rebound at Southwind, Nick Price is the man. The '93
champ, still smarting from a third-round 82 that canceled his
hopes at the British Open, flies to the FedEx determined to
deliver on Sunday.

SE RI'S THIRSTING FOR A MAJOR THREE-PAK
By winning four tournaments--including two majors--in two
months, Se Ri Pak has become the biggest star in golf. Now the
20-year-old rookie sets her sights on becoming the first woman
since Pat Bradley in 1986 to win three majors in a year. Betsy
King won two majors in 1990, but came up Canada dry at the du
Maurier. Meg Mallon had two majors under her belt as she headed
north in '91, but she went south at the du Maurier. A third
major title by Pak in her season of seasoning would make her
three times as major as Tiger Woods, if not nearly as rich.

STOCKTON SHOOTS FOR A TREY IN UTAH
Two-time champ Dave Stockton sports a spiffy 67.9 average in
five outings at Park Meadows, where he won in 1993 and '97. Last
year's Senior stop in Utah saw ZZ atop the leader board as
Kermit Zarley and Larry Ziegler made Zorro-like charges, but
Stockton got the check with the most zeros after he birdied
three of the last four holes to stretch to six his run of Senior
campaigns with at least one victory. Now the 1970 and '76 PGA
winner aims to break his '98 winless streak, set a new Park
benchmark and become the second most famous Stockton in Jazz
country.
