COLOR PHOTO: BUBBA BRYANT Tiffany Gunn, Little Rock Track and Field Tiffany, 15, won the 400-meter hurdles in her age group at the Junior Olympics with a time of 60.38 seconds. As a freshman at Watson Chapel High, she was named Arkansas girls' track and field athlete of the year after finishing first in four events at the state meet.

Football Yates, a junior tailback at Southern Oregon, rushed for 348 yards on 38 carries in a 58-21 victory over Pacific Lutheran and 202 yards against Menlo College to become the Raiders' alltime leading rusher, with 2,939 yards. He has led the NAIA in rushing for 12 consecutive weeks.

COLOR PHOTO: DAVID DUROCHIK Harry Price, Green Oaks, Ill. Water Skiing Price, 71, won the tricks, jumping and overall titles in the men's 70-74 division at the U.S. championships. Price has competed in 39 straight nationals and won 29 titles. His wife, Artis, 68, has won 39 titles and got the golds this year in the women's age 65-69 tricks and slalom.

COLOR PHOTO: L.G. PATTERSON Nikki Thole, St. Louis Soccer Thole, a sophomore at Missouri, scored three goals in seven minutes and had one assist in a 5-3 defeat of Texas Tech. Thole, now the alltime leading scorer with four hat tricks, has 16 goals, six assists and 38 points. The 8-5-1 Tigers have the best women's soccer record in the school's history.

Golf Bauer, 18, was named the American Junior Golf Association's girls' division player of the year after winning five AJGA tournaments and completing the season with a 71.55 stroke average. Now a freshman at Duke, she began her college career with two top 10 finishes.

COLOR PHOTO: JAMES BOWDOIN Caitlin Bonney, New Sharon, Maine Race Walking Caitlin, 15, of Mount Blue High in Farmington, won the national one-hour junior championship with a distance of 10,039 meters. She has the fastest 1,600-meter high school race walk in the state this year (7:55.0) and has qualified for the national scholastic indoor championships.
