Top 10 Plays Of The Year
Ortege Jenkins's flip
Jenkins, a 6'2", 214-pound sophomore quarterback, scored the
winning touchdown with four seconds left in Arizona's 31-28
victory over Washington on a nine-yard run that ended with his
flipping over three defenders at the goal line and landing on
his feet in the end zone.
LaVar Arrington's aerial hit
Showing extraordinary athleticism and timing, Arrington (below),
a sophomore linebacker at Penn State, leaped over an Illinois
lineman at the snap and landed on fullback Elmer Hickman,
tackling Hickman for a loss on fourth down as he received a
handoff during the Nittany Lions' 27-0 win over the Illini.
Sirr Parker's OT TD
The speedy Texas A&M senior running back derailed Kansas State's
national championship hopes by turning a quick slant pattern
into a 32-yard touchdown that gave the Aggies a 36-33
double-overtime victory in the Big 12 championship game.
UCLA's phantom fumble
The Bruins, leading Miami 45-42 late in the fourth quarter, were
driving when Cade McNown connected with Brad Melsby for a
30-yard gain to the Hurricane 26. The ball popped loose and was
ruled a fumble, though Melsby's knee was clearly down before he
lost the handle. Miami drove 74 yards for the winning touchdown.
Donovan McNabb's throw up and throw
After vomiting on the Syracuse sideline during a timeout before
the game's final play, McNabb capped an 83-yard drive by rolling
to his right and firing the ball across the field to Stephen
Brominski for a 13-yard touchdown that gave the Orangemen a
28-26 victory over Virginia Tech.
Clint Stoerner's cough up
With Arkansas holding a 24-22 lead on No. 1 Tennessee and less
than two minutes remaining, the Razorbacks quarterback dropped
the ball on a naked bootleg. The Volunteers recovered and went
on to win 28-24.
Ricky Williams's record run
On the run that broke Tony Dorsett's Division I-A career rushing
mark, the Texas senior burst though a hole off left tackle,
bolted down the sideline and went 60 yards for a touchdown in a
26-24 victory over Texas A&M.
Tennessee's lucky call
With less than two minutes remaining against Syracuse, the
Volunteers appeared ready to turn the ball over on downs when
Tee Martin's fourth-down pass fell incomplete. But Tennessee was
saved by a questionable pass-interference penalty, which led to
Jeff Hall's last-second 27-yard field goal and a 34-33 win.
Cedric Henry's Buckeye breakup
Michigan State made several big plays in its 28-24 upset of Ohio
State, but none was bigger than freshman cornerback Henry's
preventing a sure touchdown by knocking the ball out of David
Boston's hands in the end zone on the Buckeyes' final drive.
Prairie View's game-saving stop
Panthers win! Panthers win! Panthers win! Prairie View A&M
snapped an NCAA-record 80-game losing streak with a 14-12
victory over Langston, but not until Prairie View's Steven
Garner had stuffed Archie Craft on a run up the middle for a
two-point conversion with 34 seconds remaining.
