Volleyball Wrobel, a senior outside hitter for Michigan State, was named first team All-America after leading the nation in kills, with an average of 5.93 per game. She ranks second in the Big Ten in alltime career kills (2,292) and led the Spartans to a 23-7 record this season.

She finished the season with 35 goals and nine assists, earned All-America honors for the second time and was awarded a scholarship to Florida.

She ran the 5,000-meter course in 17:35.7 to beat Lauren Fleshman of Canyon High in Canyon Country, Calif., by 6.7 seconds.

Basketball Chambers, 55, coach at Mount San Jacinto Community College for 29 years, became the winningest California junior college basketball coach ever when the Eagles won the 589th game of his tenure, 97-91 over College of the Canyons. Through last Thursday his record was 598-307.
