She set American high school records in the 15-16 age group for squat (314.2 pounds), bench press (165.4) and total (810.3) for girls in her weight class.

She had 11 saves in Southern Cal's five-overtime 7-6 victory over Stanford in the final.

The victory gave Hampton its first berth in the NCAA tournament, in which it was beaten by Alabama 4-1.

Track and Field McManus, 75, a security officer, set a 75-and-over age-group world record in the indoor mile with a 6:42.03 at the U.S. masters championships. He broke the previous mark set in 1983 by Byron Fike, then 75, of Tallmadge, Ohio, by more than 12 seconds.
