Bowling Frost, 59, won the scratch division of the American Wheelchair Bowling national tournament in a five-person roll-off with scores of 213, 227, 246 and 204. In regaining a title he held in '97, Frost also won awards for the highest game (246) and highest qualifier after singles play (2,244).

Track and Field Jacob, a senior at Bishop Hendricken High and the North American high school record holder (253'3"), won the hammer throw at the National Scholastic Track and Field Championships with a toss of 242'9". Jacob will attend Manhattan College on a track scholarship this fall.

COLOR PHOTO: JOAN NASSIFF Vinay Annigeri, Manchester, Conn. Tennis Vinay, a junior at Manchester High, won the state singles championship, going through the entire season without losing a set. Vinay, who was 15-0 in the regular season, went 6-0 to win the State Class LL tournament and 4-0 to win the State Open tournament.

Baseball Neil, a junior shortstop at East Davidson High, homered in nine consecutive games to tie a national high school record while leading the Golden Eagles to the state 2A title and a 23-9 record. Six of Neil's season-total 14 homers came in the playoffs.

COLOR PHOTO: DARWIN WEIGEL Josh Weaver, Odessa, Texas Taekwondo Josh, 12, placed first in sparring in the heavyweight division of the 9-12 age group at the U.S. Taekwondo Federation Black Belt Championship. Josh, who earned his first-degree black belt last October, also finished second in breaking in the lightweight division.

COLOR PHOTO: RYAN MCKEE Melinda Almazan, Tucson Volleyball Almazan, a senior setter at Regis (Colo.) University, won the Honda Award as the NCAA Division II Woman Athlete of the Year. Almazan led Regis to a 31-4 record while leading the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 1,471 assists.
