A senior at Virginia, Driscoll, the 1995 New England Amateur winner, made the quarterfinals of last month's U.S. Amateur before losing to eventual champ David Gossett.

Soccer Orlandos, 18, a defender, scored the decisive goal in overtime as the U.S. under-21 women's team beat Norway to win the Nordic Cup in Reykjavik, Iceland. Orlandos, a Parade All-America as a senior at El Toro High, will play collegiately at Portland.

Track and Field Lebourne, 40, smashed the masters 40-49 world record by 1.7 seconds in winning the 1,000 meters at the Long Island championships in 2:27.80. He also won the 800 (1:54.60) and the 1,500 (3:56.05) titles at the world masters meet in Gateshead, England, in August.

Baseball Baker, 18, was named MVP of the International Baseball Association junior world championships after hitting .481 in seven games for the victorious U.S. In the title game against Chinese Taipei, Baker, a shortstop, singled in the winning run in the eighth inning of a 10-9 victory.

Swimming Annie, 14, won the 800- and 1,500-meter freestyles and the overall points trophy in the girls' 18-and-under division of the junior national championships. Her time of 8:50.52 in the 800 came within .03 of a second of qualifying her for the 2000 Olympic trials.

As a freshman last season at Iowa State, he finished 38-0 as a 184-pounder and became the first freshman to be named top wrestler at the NCAA championships.
