The next night she had a triple double in a 3-2 win over Oregon State.

Soccer Butcher, 58, the coach at Keene State, guided the Owls to victory in the four-team Sunkist Kickoff Classic, winning his 400th career game in the process. Keene State's 2-1 defeat of Rutgers-Camden made Butcher the seventh men's college soccer coach in any division to reach 400.

BROWN Daniel Anderson, Nynashamn, Sweden Tennis Anderson, a senior at Virginia Commonwealth, beat teammate Frank Moser 6-2, 6-2 to win the national intercollegiate clay court championships. It was Anderson's second consecutive tournament title and improved his match record to 11-0 for the fall season.

The jaunt gave him 301 yards for the game. Through Sunday he had rushed for 1,636 yards and 12 touchdowns in eight games this season.

COLOR PHOTO: LARRY HARWOOD Kara Wheeler, Duluth Cross-country Wheeler, a junior at Colorado, nosed out Erin Sullivan of Stanford to win the women's Pre-NCAA meet. Her performance led the Buffaloes to a third-place team finish, behind Stanford and BYU, and made her a favorite to come in first at the NCAA championships later this month.

Water Polo Brown, a junior at UCLA, scored a career-high five points in leading the second-ranked Bruins past then fourth-ranked California. His points came on four goals, one of which was a two-pointer that proved to be the game-winner in an eventual 8-2 UCLA victory.
