Cross-country Fein, a senior at Oregon, won the pre-NCAA meet with a time of 24:06.31, the fifth fastest run on the 4.96-mile University of Indiana course. As a junior, he became the first Duck to be an All-America in cross-country and indoor and outdoor track and field in the same academic year.

MESTER Jenny Streiffer, Baton Rogue Soccer Streiffer, a senior forward at Notre Dame, scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 7-1 win over Miami to become the fourth woman NCAA player to reach 60 goals and 60 assists in her career. The seven-point performance ran her totals to 62 goals and 65 assists.

Marathon O'Neill, 34, the Dartmouth women's cross-country coach for eight seasons and a former distance runner at the school, won the Clarence DeMar Marathon in 2:56:30. It was her first race at the distance, and her time was only six seconds short of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Football Fale, a senior running back at Oceanside High, ran for 203 yards as the Pirates came back from a 14-point deficit to beat Torrey Pines High 24-21. After scoring on a 25-yard second-quarter run, he helped tie the game in the fourth when he took a screen pass 27 yards for a touchdown.

She had four assists in an 8-2 win over Princeton and two more in a 2-0 defeat of Old Dominion that boosted the No. 1-ranked Terps' record to 16-1.

He didn't lose a set in winning the second leg of the intercollegiate grand slam and becoming the fourth Cardinal in this decade to win the tournament.
